We're Back!

NOTE: As of September 23, 2009, this post has been edited in
accordance with a court-mediated settlement. The names of the
contractor and his excavation subcontractor have been replaced with
pseudonyms.

After months of downtime during a legal dispute over the content of this site, we decided that we would go with our consciences and put things back up and deal with whatever retribution comes our way.

The short description is this: our former foundation contractor, Contractor A Construction, run by Contractor A, who is a ruddy, angry man whose primary lasting impression on us is a series of elaborate lies he told us throughout his work on our house and the subsequent legal battle, alleges that this site contains defamatory statements about them. In order to be defamatory, a statement has to be untrue. As far as I know, there are some things we've written about here that we've turned out to be wrong about (more on this in a second), but nothing we wrote about Contractor A or Contractor A Construction was untrue. They're unflattering, but then again, it's hard work not to be unflattering to such a hideous piece of filth as Contractor A. This is the man who tried to sow discord in our marriage by claiming to one that the other had made truly disrespectful and disparaging remarks (fortunately, we were well beyond believing him at that point). This is the man who lied and lied and lied when talking about his dealings with the city, Public Works, and our engineer, and probably with us. He caused damage under our house to the tune of more than a hundred thousand dollars, including his inept plumbing work (oh, god, don't ever let him do plumbing; we spent thousands of dollars ripping out the mess he made), and the utter hash he made of the electrical work (which he then claimed was done by a subcontractor who doesn't exist). To call him a human being is overly flattering. To imply that he does business is almost obscene brown-nosing. We hate Contractor A (he's the guy who showed up on the job drunk, have we mentioned?).

As of right now, we're having a lawyer review the posts that mention Contractor A Construction (which is how he gets hold of his victims) or Contractor A (who is a dimwit), because we made some statements based on information that Contractor A (who seemed to enjoy threatening us; he didn't have much for manners) gave us and we need to evaluate those statements and if necessary add in some clarification with the benefit of hindsight. As we approve the posts, we'll put them up, plus the posts we've been adding offline during the downtime. It promises to be a really fascinating read. (And this edit is making it more fascinating, trust us.)

But there's even more good news! Yesterday morning at 8AM, our new foundation contractor, Counterforce of Oakland, showed up and began work on the drainage system and sump. They expect to be ready for the first inspection by Monday. When I get home and can get to the offline posts, I'll put up some photos.

Until then, thank you to all our loyal readers who have kept in touch via e-mail and phone calls. We really appreciate the support. You can contact us at casadecrepit@blue-room.com.
