Unwhitening, Part One

Because I know you have all been on the edge of your seats since I said we would be painting the ceiling (even though we didn't; we did another layer of primer, instead), I give you the first colour coat in the Accordion Room.

Here we have Noel mixing the paint up. If anything is more interesting than watching paint dry (which is really fascinating!), it's watching somebody else mix paint. We have these nice little paint mixers that fit the quart cans perfectly. I recommend using a paint mixer attachment on a drill for mixing paint; stirring by hand sucks.

Making up a batch of blue paint

Then we were off! Noel went first, rolling on the blue paint, while I followed up doing the edges. The first coat needs to dry for four hours, so only one coat tonight (because we may be nuts, but staying up until 2am painting the ceiling is a bit too nutty).

Such a pretty color!

It is so weird that I have been painting the ceiling too, and spending too much money at Mark's Paint (the Oakland store). The price on Regal is getting insane.

However, I'm nuts-er than you because I was painting until 12 last night. If there is a better way to go blind and/or mad than rolling out a ceiling at night, I'm glad I don't know about it.

Mmm, ceiling painting at night. Neck cricks AND blindness. I only dabbed my head into wet ceiling paint once, which is probably a record for me.

As for the price of paint, you basically get what you pay for, because cheaper paint covers less well. We're able to do the ceiling, two coats, with a quart of expensive paint. Cheaper paint and I'd be looking at a couple of quarts (actually, I painted the bathroom with really cheap paint and it was probably closer to a gallon to do the ceiling, but I used self-priming paint there so it doesn't work as a comparison).
