New Stairs

I guess it's a bit of a tradition for us to just have our stairs rebuilt like four or five times.

New side stairs

Over the last week, the carpenters took out the old side stairs, placed a new concrete footing, and built these nice new stairs. (They have cardboard on them to protect them from damage during construction.)

Narrower stairs and moved to the side

The new stairs are a little narrower, more appropriately scaled to the porch and a Victorian, and are further away from the side wall.

Wider gap at the side of the stairs

You can see the old siding showing how narrow the gap between the stairs and the side wall before. It was really too narrow and kind of a pain to deal with.

The carpenters also dealt with the base trim detail a little differently than I would prefer, and not the way I really wanted them to do it, but it works and I'm about 100 percent done with trying to make this house perfect. Woody wore out all my perfectionist need to do things the right way.

Stepped trim detail

In a traditional Victorian side porch, the water table trim would not continue around the porch. But this works fine and I don't care any more.

So far, we have no start date for the flooring contractor. I assume that means it's not tomorrow, which kind of pisses me off, but it's not something I have control over. This whole project has been about not having any control over things. There you go.
